Elizabeth Clark (68) passed away at her home in Alameda, CA on October 30, 2017 after a brief struggle with cancer. The world is a lesser place without her compassion, insights, energy and guidance offered selflessly to so many friends, family members, colleagues and clients. She is survived by her mother Katherine, sister Susan, brother Charles, nieces Sarah and Jennifer, and nephews Michael and George. Her father, George Lewis Clark and brother George preceded her in death. Her devoted family will miss her unwavering love and support.

Elizabeth was senior counsel at Allen Matkins in San Francisco focused on renewable energy and sustainable development. Previously she worked at Wendel, Rosen, Black and Dean, LLP in Oakland in commercial real estate law.

Elizabeth has always dedicated a significant amount of her time to pro bono activities. The San Francisco Business Times honored her for founding and supervising the Low-Income Eviction Project for Landlords and she served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of East Bay and Alameda County Volunteer Legal Services Corporation. She has served as the co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Diversity Committee in CA and SFO and has acted as the district general counsel to Downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt-Uptown Community Benefit Districts.

Elizabeth has recently received awards from the Power Women in Bay Area Commercial Real Estate and the Northern California Real Estate Women of Influence. Previously she was named the mentor and volunteer of the year for the Alameda County Volunteer Legal Services Corporation.

Prior to moving to California, she represented international clients in the US Virgin Islands and was President of the Virgin Island Bar Association.  Previously, she served as chief of staff for ten years to New York State Senator Franz S. Leichter. She earned her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law and her BA in Political Science at Hunter College in the City University of New York.

In honor of Elizabeth’s giving spirt, the family encourages friends to make a commitment to volunteer and donate to their local community. Family, friends and colleagues from California, Virgin Islands and New York will gather to celebrate Elizabeth’s life and work at Chapel of the Chimes 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, California 94611, on November 11th at 2PM.
