Tribute

Patrick Michael Corder, 43, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, following a difficult battle with Post Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI). He was born on September 11, 1980 in San Mateo, California and later moved to San Leandro where he was raised before attending Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School in Alameda. Patrick’s strong Alameda roots leave many devastated by his sudden loss.

Patrick was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Alameda Fire Department in 2008 and proudly served the citizens of Alameda with honor and distinction for 15 years, retiring in 2023. He was instrumental in the success of the fire department’s Community Paramedic program, in which he was one of the first Community Paramedics in California. Patrick served in this role for seven years where he was devoted to helping community members, including the unhoused, in meeting their basic medical needs. He became an advocate and spokesperson for this vital response model over the years. Throughout his career, Patrick was extremely involved in Alameda Firefighters Association IAFF Local 689, serving on the union’s Executive Board as Trustee, Recording Secretary, and President. Patrick loved the fire service and was a staunch advocate for the mental health of his fellow firefighters. This included sharing his story on a podcast and returning to the City of Alameda to educate recruits following his retirement.

Patrick was embraced by many community members as a public servant who had an amazing personality that allowed for positive engagement with everyone he encountered. He organized and spearheaded the Alameda Firefighters’ annual Toy Program, participated in children’s reading programs, and the fire safety town for Alameda schools.  He was also involved with other community programs such as Meals on Wheels. Patrick was always willing to lend a helping hand and would do almost anything people asked of him. In addition to his professional and community service endeavors, Patrick loved working out, which included CrossFit and jujitsu. He was also an avid skateboarder, reader, artist, and guitar player. Patrick is survived by his wife of 10 years, Emily Corder, and his mother and father.

Even beyond his death Patrick is continuing his legacy of serving others and giving them a second chance at life with the donation of his organs.
