Richard Darlington Alexander-Bowen, best known as ‘Alex’, was born on December 21, 1954 in his home country of Georgetown, Guyana. He peacefully ascended in Oakland California in June of 2017 to join his beloved mother, Agnes Joyce Bowen.

Alex was a dynamic, charming and intelligent man who lived his life to the fullest – exclusively on his own terms. He joined the United States Navy in 1975 and was honorably discharged upon completion of his service in 1979. He transitioned from the military into a position with the United States Postal Service (USPS), where he remained until his retirement in 2008.

Alex loved warm weather and vibrant environments, which is why he chose Oakland, California as his home base for the past 30+ years. He loved the city of Oakland and was active and well known in the community. He enjoyed playing soccer, watching sports and was a talented artist (drawing) and musician (guitar). He was also an avid traveler, and his love of his West Indian culture inspired him to visit his home country as well as most of the Caribbean islands multiple times throughout his life.

Alex’s memory will carry on through his only child and daughter, Janell Alexander-Bowen; nephew, Kirk Alexander Henry; nephew, Daniel Alexander Bowen and sister, Jennifer Alexander-Bowen.
