Albert L. Smith

Albert “Al” Smith was born in Alameda, CA on August 11, 1930, to the late Albert and Grace Smith.  He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 61 years, Letty Smith; daughter Alicia Leite (Michael); grandchildren, Michelle (Patrick) Hall, Christine (Aaron) Leite and Nicole Leite; and great-grandchildren Valentino, Tyrus, Elias and Gunnar Hall.  
Al honorably served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for seven years before starting a career in the Sporting Goods industry.  His love of history and dedication to service was evidenced by his countless hours of volunteerism with the 23rd Marine Regimen in Alameda and on the U.S.S. Hornet for over 20 years.  
Al was a man who enjoyed reading, watching sports, old Western movies, and loved a good party.  He took his brandy Manhattans “Up” and friends and family alike relished his flirty, fun personality.  It’s no surprise that his easy-going personality made him a friend to all.  He valued his time with his friends and looked forward to his daily coffee with his cronies up at the Landing.  Those who knew Al, though, knew that the one thing that mattered most to him was his family.  He cherished his wife, Letty, and would proudly hold her hand anytime they were out.  He treasured his time spent with his daughter and son-in-law, granddaughters, and great grandsons.  At his core, his family was his heart and soul.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Avenue, in Alameda.  The viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the service will follow from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Attendees are welcome to stay for the reception following the service.
