Carol passed away peacefully after a short illness with her family by her side in her hometown of Alameda. Carol was born in Northern California to parents James and Jeannette Snell. She leaves behind her brother Jim Snell and sister Sylvia Hudson, as well as her loving daughter Jenny Cantrell and two much beloved cats. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their children, and several cousins along with their children and grandchildren.

Carol was known for her sweetness, her kindness, her great sense of humor, and her zest for living, learning, and history. She loved being in a book club and traveling extensively.

She graduated from Alameda High School then went on to graduate from University of California at Berkeley, both with honors. She was a primary grade teacher in the San Leandro Unified School District, where she was awarded Teacher of the Year.

After retiring, she was quite active in her local community, volunteering for the Older Adults Ministry at the First Presbyterian Church Of Alameda, among other activities. She also served as a deacon at the church. She is sorely missed by all who loved her.

Her memorial services will be Saturday, May 20th at the First Presbyterian Church of Alameda at two o'clock.

In lieu of flowers, please give to one of the following charities: Alameda Meals on Wheels, Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, or a local charity that aligns with her values of literacy, learning, supporting people who need help in the community, and helping people do good locally.
