Born in Alameda, CA on April 14, 1919 to the late Joseph and Marie O'Brien, Katie passed away just a few days shy of her 99th birthday on April 4, 2018. She is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Tom Mackey, Jerry Mackey, Mary Crutchfield, and Kathy Ranharter; grand nieces and nephews: Colleen Volpone, Denise Toth, Joan Larson, Bob Mackey, Susan Frakes, Theresa Lyon, Janine Reed, Todd Crutchfield, Cindy Crutchfield, Andrea Crutchfield, Richard Crutchfield, Patrick Saxton, Bryan and Jeremy Ranharter; 28 great grand nieces and nephews; one great-great grand niece and nephew; and sister-in-law Audrey O'Brien. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur Baker; sister Marcella Mackey; and brothers: Joseph, Edward and Jim O'Brien.
Katie worked as a manager in the personal department of Pacific Bell and AT&T for many years. She was a long time member of the Youth Leadership Institute. She enjoyed traveling the world, playing cards, gardening and knitting.
Family and friends may visit after 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12th and attend the Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda; and attend the Funeral Mass on Friday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Basilica, 1109 Chestnut St., Alameda.
