Consuelo Escobar

February 4, 1930 ~ October 19, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Consuelo Escobar age 87 was met at Heaven’s Gate by her grandmother (Soledad), mother (Victoria) and sister (Josephine) on October 19, 2017 in Alameda, CA where she was a lifelong resident. She was born to the late Juan and Victoria Buitrago on February 4, 1930 in San Francisco, CA.

Consuelo attended Norte Dame High School in Alameda and Graduated in 1948. She became a Telephone Operator for Pacific Bell where she met her husband, Orlando Escobar at a dance on her way to work. They married in 1954 and later drifted apart and were divorced. Orlando passed away in 2013. 38 years later, she retired from AT&T where she received multiple commendations for her above and beyond customer service, as well as her years of service and dedication.

Consuelo was a devout catholic, loyal parishioner, active member and generous donator of St. Barnabas Parish, where she was steadily involved in the Booster Club.

In Spanish the name Consuelo means “To console, find comfort and provided relief.” She lived up to her name, being a friend to everyone and anyone by always opening her home to family and friends, giving them a safe place, in many cases, a chance to restart their lives.

She was fond of pink popcorn, the color purple and Sudoku. She was an avid listener of catholic radio and enjoyed shopping and casino trips with her traveling buddy and sister-in-law, Sherril Buitrago. Her most prized possessions, greatest treasure, her pride and joy…her photographs!

Consuelo had a way of leaving an impression with her one of a kind personality and strong opinions. She is memorable and you will never forget meeting her. She made a huge impact on those who knew her well. She has changed us in many ways, be it spiritually or other and has left a great mark in the world for us to remember.

Consuelo is survived by her three children, Antonio Alfredo, Ana Maria and Angela Gloria; five grandchildren, Alicia, Angelina, Alexandria, Angelica and Carlos Angel III; siblings, John, Lupe and Louis; nephew and niece Louis and Barbara Buitrago; nine nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews as well as God mother to over 20 God children, both here and in Mexico. Her daughter Angela is very grateful and blessed to have had her as her mother and to Auntie Lupe for her strength, to Cousin Olie for his support and to Michelle at Greer Family Mortuary for her kindness.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services in honor of Consuelo. A visitation will be held on All Saints Day, Wednesday, November 1st from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda. The funeral mass will be held on All Souls Day, Thursday, November 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 1427 6th St., Alameda. She will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma with a private ceremony.
