Dionisia Acedillo

Dionisia Acedillo was said to have been a practical woman, but she also had a love for adventure and was well-traveled. Her adventure began as Dionisia Moreno, born December 16, 1935, in Palo Leyte, Philippines.

Dionisia was known for her immense heart, infectious laugh, and strong work ethic. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to be business-savvy and to think on her toes.

While in the Philippines, in 1978, she took her passion for sewing and cooking and opened a tailor shop in Quezon City, Philippines and a restaurant in Bicutan Taguig, Philippines.

She was also a very generous woman. Neighbors knew her for her kind spirit and warm heart. She would always help children in need and would often open her home to orphaned children to ensure they had food to eat and clothes on their backs.

At 56, Dionisia immigrated to the U.S. with her husband, Carlos, and settled in Alameda, California. She managed to get a part time job at a local library where she enjoyed reading to children, while also volunteering at local daycare centers to help shape the minds of young kids for a better future. She even won an award in the Foster Grandparent Program for her outstanding volunteer services.

Dionisia had a fondness for collecting small figurines, dolls, wigs, hats and even birds.

She would often be found feeding birds outside of her home. She loved them because of how easy it was for a bird to take flight without fear, only needing trust and love.

Dionisia is survived by her loving husband Carlos and their 11 children, 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Life Celebration in honor of Dionisia on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m.
