Dorothy Alice Hagen a long time resident of Alameda, passed away peacefully at her home on August 11, 2019 at the age of 109. She was born to the late John and Sidonie Hintz on May 5, 1910 in Chicago, Illinois.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard and his wife Cathy; daughters-in-law, Gayle and Regina; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Sonja, Daniel and Elize; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel and son, Donald.
Dorothy lived next door to Phyllis Diller in the 1950’s. Phyllis would send Dorothy hand-painted Christmas cards and autographed photos and books for her birthdays.
Dorothy was a loyal member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was presented with a 75-year service award. She also belonged to the International Order of the White Shrine. She loved volunteering for anything that helped the elderly or children. She spent much time caring for elderly friends.
Per Dorothy’s request, no funeral services will take place. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Chapel of the Chimes, Oakland.
