Alameda – Eric James Ludwig (Jim), 79, died Sunday, September 29, 2019 at home following a long struggle with Multiple System Atrophy.
He leaves his wife of almost 53 years, Doreen, children; Rich, Wil, Joe, Bob, Alice and Melanie, brother Bob and sister, Joyce, with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
After falling in love with Doreen and kids, Mr. Ludwig moved his family to Alameda, providing a beautiful home for over 50 years. He was an accomplished automobile mechanic, specializing in brakes.
Jim was an avid Raiders fan through thick and thin. For many years, he could be found on Thursday nights at the 19th Hole – drinking a cold beer and playing darts. He loved a fun game of poker with family and winning at cribbage. Jim also enjoyed a challenging game of pool and solving the San Francisco Chronicle's daily Jumble word puzzle. Dad was always easy to buy a Christmas or birthday gift for – he always appreciated a good book, the latest from Dean Koontz or Stephen King, a bottle of Jack Daniels, lottery tickets or a carton of his favorite smokes.
Visitation will held on Thursday, October 10 from 4 to 8 pm and funeral service on Friday, October 11 at 11 am – both will be held at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services in Alameda.
