Tribute

Frederick A. Chew Jr. was born in Tacoma, Washington on December 4, 1929. He took eternal rest on January 6, 2022.

Frederick served in the U.S. Army and is a veteran of the Korean War. He moved to his favorite city, San Francisco and earned his degree with the class of 1958. For several years, he operated his own photography studio, capturing images of many of San Francisco up and coming. He found his niche at Housing and Urban Development as a construction analyst, and retired after 45 years of service.

Frederick was an active retiree. An avid sports fan, he watched and discussed gold, football, baseball and basketball regularly, but his favorite was tennis. He played tennis regularly with the Lydecker Senior Tennis Group. Frederick also served as a volunteer member of Housing and Building Code and Appeals Board for the city of Alameda.

Frederick will be missed for his unapologetic directness and sense of humor. He is the patriarch of his family and will live on in many memories.

Celebrating his life and missing his presence are his daughter Crystal Chew, son Frederick Chieux, nieces Marvel Bradshaw, Dena Bradshaw, nephew Johnny Bradshaw and his wife Carmen Bradshaw.  Frederick is also survived by his grandchildren Donald Brown and Isaiah Brown, great-grandchildren Amina Brown and Malachi Brown along with tens of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
