Irene Maslonkowski passed away on Wednesday, September 13th at the age of 94. Daughter of the late Peter and Mary Cappa, Irene was an Alameda native and always considered the town her home. She graduated from Alameda High School in 1941 and during her time there she was a member of the Girls Glee Club and R.O.T.C. Sponsor Company D. Prior to having five children with her late husband Ervin Maslonkowski, Irene worked as an operator at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. She was an avid member of St. Barnabas Church and would volunteer at the accompanying school where many of her children attended. She could always be found in the garden tending her yard, especially her boysenberry bushes.
Irene was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Linda Goldbeck and brother Paul Cappa. She is survived by her children, Terry Shuler (Richard), Dennis Maslonkowski (Victoria Curtis), Nancy Dressler (Dave), Joyce Rinck (Mike), and son-in-law Jeff Goldbeck; half-brother Aldo Cappa and Aldo’s children Brian, Paul, and Leslye Cappa; beloved grandchildren, Jason Shuler (Rebecca), Sara Shuler, Melissa Rivers (Sean), Zachary Goldbeck, Jennifer Goldbeck, Curtis Maslonkowski, Kayla Maslonkowski, and Kristen Rinck; and great grandchildren, Archer Goldbeck and Bella Shuler.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services in honor of Irene. Visitation will be held at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda on Thursday, September 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Vigil at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Barnabas Church, 1427 6th St., Alameda on Friday, September 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo at 2:00 p.m.
Donations may be made in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
