Born in New York City on April 13, 1948 to Michael and Mary Rakochy. Irene passed peacefully, in her sleep the morning of June 14, 2017 of natural causes. Irene is survived by her two sons, Michael and Thomas Shultz. After growing up in New York City, Irene drove across the country at the age of 21 to the Bay Area. She settled down with her husband, John Shultz in Alameda in the early 80’s where they would raise their family. She was a beautiful soul, that cared for everyone that entered her life. She was a person you could count on to be both honest and compassionate. She was an artist, making several beautiful stained-glass pieces and knitting sweaters and scarves for close friends. A master gardener, who spent hours tending to her little, but bountiful land. Irene enjoyed her retirement, traveling to Europe and across the States. She lived her life to the fullest, and never lost her jovial energy. A celebration of life will be held on July 15th at the Elk’s Lodge in Alameda from 1-4pm.
