On January 5, 2022, Janice Lynne Uhler (age 58) passed away peacefully in California after a recurrence of pseudomyxoma peritonei, a disease that she battled since 2005.
She said that she had enjoyed her time on earth and was happy to have spent it with her animals and friends. She was able to have a business that supported her and to have her horses in her back yard that she could see every day. She enjoyed earth and all of it’s wonders. She was at her happiest sitting under a tree on a beautiful, warm, sunny day feeling the breeze and looking at a stunning Carolina blue sky.
Her passion was horses and she enjoyed as much time as she could hanging out with the “horsey” people in her life, riding and caring for her horses. Just as she did her whole life, she lived many of her last days to the fullest on her farm and with her current horses (Rascal and Sweet Pea).
Originally from South Charleston, WV, she moved to the Carolinas in the late 1980’s. She was a graphic artist by trade and said that her favorite job was working for The Charlotte Observer. She worked there for 14 years as an artist and sales person.
Jani (as she is known to her family) is survived by those that loved her very much: her parents, Clayton & Peggy Uhler of South Charleston, WV; her siblings, Susan (Uhler) & T.O. Dickey (South Charleston, WV) , Kenneth Uhler (Glen Burnie, MD), Joan Uhler (Alameda, CA), Judy (Uhler) & Randy McGimsey (Senoia, GA) and Robert & Nicole Uhler (South Charleston, WV); nieces Jennifer, Meg, Beth, Kim (deceased) and TJ; nephew Jon-Robert; a number of grandnieces and grandnephews; her aunt & uncle Barbara (Uhler) and Tom Parke (Pittsburgh, PA), her aunt Ellen Belisle (Hookstown, PA); her cousins and her friends. She was preceded in death by several of her beloved horses and we know that she is galloping across heaven on Gonja right now!
A memorial service may be planned in the future. If you would like to do something in memory of Janice, she asked that donations to be made to your local PBS station. Janice watched the best programs on her local stations during her life.
