Jean grew up in Scotland. She immigrated to the United States in 1950. She worked in Scotland and the USA as a comptometer operator in accounting.
She met her future husband Eric West a few years later. They married and had four children: Sheena, Penny, Brian, and Maureen. After several moves Jean and Eric settled in Alameda.
Jean worked as the St Philip Neri school librarian for many years. She was very active in the choir and loved to sing. She worked with the Legion of Mary, bringing Holy Communion to the sick, as well as her gift of song. She enjoyed painting in miniature, knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
When she was a little girl she told her older brother Joe that one day she would have roses blooming in December. Her garden in Alameda included more than 25 rose bushes.
Jean has four children, ten grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Jean was celebrated in a Catholic Funeral Service held at Greer Mortuary Chapel on August 25, 2020 and was laid to rest alongside Eric at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
