Jennifer Cabral, a long-time resident of Alameda and the beloved wife of Eugene “Gene” Cabral of nearly 50 years, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2018. Born in Kaneohe (Oahu), Hawaii on February 2, 1945, she was the sixth child of eleven to Henry and Ellen Elderts, Sr. Jennifer (nicknamed by her father and well-known as “Sugar”) came to Alameda at 13 years old, along with her parents and her siblings: Audrey Elderts (deceased), Carolyn Lee, Henry Elderts, Jr. (deceased), Geraldine Louis, Warren, Maitland, Clayton and Andrea Elderts, Olivia Torres and Heather Chu. Sugar attended Porter Elementary School and graduated from Alameda High School in 1963. She continued her education at U.C. Berkeley while working as an ARPD Park Director at various parks, particularly at McKinley Park. She married Eugene Cabral on September 14, 1968, and they were blessed with their only child - a daughter, Janine. Janine gave her three beautiful grandchildren: Jesse, Noah and Iwalani Cruz, and a precious great-granddaughter, Marianna Cruz.
Our hearts are full knowing that she's now with her parents, sister and brother and watching over us. She will be sorely missed. At Jennifer's request, no formal services are being held.
