Tribute

John Guy Mannick caught a wave away from us on October 21, 2021 in Alameda County where he spent the last 36 years of his life. Born on the beaches in Southern California on March 19, 1950, John was an actor, surfer, hippy, dope-smoking woodworker, and computer programmer. John spent his childhood surfing and skateboarding along the palm trees of Redondo Beach with his brothers and sisters. In 1968 he took HWY 1 North to Golden Gate Park and San Francisco. He found his home amongst the free speech and civil rights activists of San Francisco State. Two kids and two wives later he created a lively and comfortable home in Alameda. Never defined by what he couldn’t do, John experienced life to the fullest. He brought people together and built a community of friends and family who respected, loved, and adored him. Whether playing cards, grooving to music, learning new languages, or staring in wonderment at the nature around him he was always curious, interested, and joyful. John is survived by his siblings Elizabeth Wolting, Margie Clayton, Lou Mannick, and Paul Mannick; his children Ethan Mannick, Rachael Sage and son-in-law Bob Sage; his cherished grandchildren Cole Mannick, and Jaymes Mannick; and his devoted caregivers Ronald Solano and Hamida Hatifie. Contact rachaelesage@gmail.com for information about service arrangements. Donations in his honor may be made to Meals on Wheels, an organization John supported throughout his life. Sleepy tight, dad.
