Juanita Ruiz Orube

Our loving mother, JUANITA RUIZ ORUBE (“Juanita”), died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 7:13 PM in Alameda, California.

Juanita was born in Zacapu Michoacan in Mexico on August 19, 1941 to Ruben Ruiz and Zaleta Camarillo.  Juanita was the oldest of 11 siblings (Ruben, Carolina, Ruben II, Pedro, Socorro, Cristina, Evangelina, Ana Lilia, Magdalena, Jorge, and Mario).  Juanita is survived by 8 siblings (Ruben, Socorro, Cristina, Evangelina, Ana Lilia, Magdalena, Jorge, and Mario).

She is also survived by our father, Gustavo Orube and us, her three kids (Nancy, Lisa and Gilbert).  Her legacy will continue shine through her loving grandchildren (Michael, Anthony, Michaela, Andi, Nico, Gio, Analise, and Baby Isaiah - and Mark who greeted her in heaven).  We also cannot forget my mom’s in-laws (Mark, Fidel, Ana, and Espy). 

This list would not be complete if we do not mention the many godchildren, nieces and nephews who loved her.  There are too many of you to mention.

To know our mother was to love her.  She was the leader and pillar of our family.  She genuinely cared about those around her.  She was the LIFE of family parties.  Nothing made her happier than to have a family gathering - she enjoyed cooking with our father pozole, enchiladas, and jelatinas de leche for the entire family clan.  The parties always included some great games of cinco loco, burro castigado, and concian.  And, like all good family parties, the evening would end with all of us dancing cumbias to “Juana la Cubana”, “Pollito con Papas”, “Secreto de Amor”, “Morenita Mia” and many more.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she has touched.  We will share our stories of remembrance on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Avenue, Alameda, CA  9450.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
