Lolita Eveline Lopes Szeto

In the early hours of August 9th, surrounded by her daughter Ashley and other loved members of her family, Lola passed away peacefully at home. Lola was born on June 23, 1945 in Shanghai, China. She graduated from St. Mary’s Canossian College in Hong Kong and worked as the Executive Secretary at the Hong Kong Tourist Association. She moved to Vancouver, Canada in the late 60s before coming to the San Francisco Bay area to join her sister Peggy in the mid 70s. In 2003, she married her long-time friend and confidant Wai-Kon Szeto. Lola was actively involved in several Alameda welfare organizations, including the Parish of St. Philip Neri - St. Albert the Great in Alameda. Lola enjoyed traveling, gardening, singing in choir, and watching back-to-back hallmark movies with her daughter Ashley. 

Lola had the rare ability to touch every person she met through her selfless, insightful, and optimistic personality. She was always ready to help others and will leave a lasting mark on every heart she touched. Her life will forever be cherished by her daughter Ashley, her brother Jerry and wife Cathy, and nephews Aaron, Gabriel and Zachary. Lola will also be remembered by other family members, including Johnny (pre-deceased) and Kathy (Baptista) Cheung, Madeline and Bernard Blanco, Vincent and Miriam Baptista, and Michael and Kelly Baptista, Marcus and Wendy Gaan, Len and Lou Gaan, Albert and Helen Gaan, Richard Gaan, Anthony Gaan, Diana and Jose Crestejo, Patricia (pre-deceased) and William Runyan, Virginia and Warren Seitz. Lola was predeceased by her mother Lily, husband Wai-Kon, and sister Peggy.

We also invite family and friends to attend the services on Tuesday, August 22nd; Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Albert the Great in Alameda. Lola will be laid to rest at St. Mary Cemetery following mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery located at 4529 Howe St., Oakland, CA
