Nancy Gannon-Mongerson

It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing on December 30th of Nancy Ann Gannon-Mongerson, age 70, at her home in Alameda. Nancy was born in Oakland on February 13, 1947 to Gordon and Clara Ratto Cox. Nancy graduated from Alameda High School in 1964 and went on to complete her education at Cal State Hayward earning her teaching credential. She then spent the next 40 years lovingly and enthusiastically educating students in the Alameda Unified School District. Nancy was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and entertained many throughout the years. She also had a talent for writing creative prose and recently co-authored several children’s books with her cousin, Darleen Sherman. Nancy had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile. Nancy was pre-deceased by her daughter, Katie Perata, her parents, Gordon and Clara Cox, aunt Teresa Ratto, uncles Benedetto Ratto, Bacci Ratto, Tony Ratto, and Mario Ratto. She is sadly missed by her beloved daughter, Amy Gannon Polk (Jerry), and her cherished granddaughters, Paige and Taylor Perata. Remembering their sister with love and fond memories are her brothers Paul Cox and nieces Jessica Cox Prescott and Sarah Cox Ybarra (Aurelio) and Jim Cox (Shannon) and nephews Evan Cox and Adam Cox. Nancy will forever be remembered by many cousins and other relatives who loved joining together at the Ratto gatherings through the years. Sing on, Angel Nancy. Viewing will be held on Tues., Jan. 9th between 5 and 7 pm at Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda. Funeral mass will be held on Wed., Jan. 10th at 10 am at St. Philip Neri Church, 3108 Van Buren, Alameda with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward at a later date.
