Patrick Maloney

Patrick left us peacefully during the early morning hours of May 19, 2023 in Alameda, CA after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, his son Brian, his step daughter Tammy and her family, his brother Frank (pf New York), sister Beth (of Portland) and pre-deceased this year by his sister Denise.

Patrick was born September 16, 1955 in New York. He never gave up his New York Irish roots, all the while making California his home. As a US Army Veteran, he served our country in posts overseas and shared stories of his time in Germany.

He loved to travel. And in his travels on this earth, he had a great eye and talent for seeing the beauty in the moment – most of which he captured with his cameras in thousands of beautiful photographs. That “great eye” of his also connected him to his occupation as an Ophthalmology Technician for many institutions and physicians, including Stanford University Medical Center. He cared deeply for his healthcare co-workers and patients.

Patrick had a big Irish heart and a bigger Irish wit. He could endear himself to strangers and make all of us who knew him laugh endlessly. He had a deep empathy for those who struggled and offered help and support the best way he could.

And he loved dogs…never without a pocket full of dog treats, he endeared himself to “man’s best friend” in any home or park…and as dogs know good people, they loved him, too.

There will be no service. The family has requested that remembrances to be made in form of contributions to American Lung Association.
