Son of the late Cornelius Mowry Wood & Ann Pauline (Mirth) Wood of Pittsburgh, PA. Brother of the late Beverly Ann (Wood) Edelmann of North East, PA. Survived by brother COL C. Dallas Wood (USMC Ret.) of Green Bay WI, sister Molly Mirth (Wood) Pool of Pittsburgh PA, 18-nieces and nephews, and his beloved wife of 55 years years, Barbara Ann (Roberts) Wood.
Educated grades 1-3 in McKees Rocks, PA, 4-12 in Ben Avon (Pittsburgh), PA. Graduated Avonworth H.S. 1955; employed at United Engineering & Foundry and Union Barge Line (both in Pgh.); U.S. Army 1957-59 at Ft. Polk LA, Ft. Leonard Wood MO, and Ft. Knox KY, SP4, Squad Leader, 2nd Armored Rifle Bn., 54th Infantry; Bach. Of Architecture degree Univ. of Colorado (Boulder) 1966; licensed CA Architect 1969 and subsequently licensed Architect in PA, CO, NV, OR & Guam. Employed: Donald R. Roark, AIA, Denver, CO 1962-65; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Architects, San Francisco, CA 1966-1971; Mackinlay/Winnacker/McNeil (MWM) Architects, Oakland, CA 1971-2005. VP & Senior VP of MWM 1979-2005. Worked at MWM offices in Guam, Honolulu, Al-Kobar Saudia Arabia, Sacramento and corporate hdqs. in Oakland, CA. Forty-six year resident of Alameda, CA; part time resident of Kauai, HI, 2007-2017. Member American Institute of Architects 1969-present. 28-consecutive years public service (1979-2007) on various City of Alameda, CA boards, commissions & Mayor-appointed task forces: Planning Board; Economic Development Commission; Recycling Task Force; Port Authority Task Force; Base Reuse Advisory Group; and Golf Commission. Member of Alameda Junior Golf Assn. Bd. Of Directors 2008-2018.
Devoted sports fan, softball player, golfer, amateur photographer, American history buff, classical & jazz music listener, and devoted to architecture of all kinds--both professionally and as a life-long avocation. Loved travelling-- spent time in 33-countries & territories. Always grateful for his much rewarded life.
