Sophia Pespitro Jimenez

Sophia Pespitro Jimenez was born on July 11, 1946 in Silang, Cavite, Philippines to the late Rosa and Tereso Pespitro. Sophia passed away from complications arising from coronary artery disease at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, California on April 15, 2022. She is survived by her loving husband, Cirilo Jimenez, and her siblings Elisea Pespitro, Danilo Pespitro, Larry Pespitro, Penny Sabilala, and Meddy Baisa. She deeply loved her two late sons Christopher and Jonathan Jimenez, whom she will now be reunited with in heaven.

Growing up in the Philippines, Sophia attended the Infant Jesus Academy of Silang for high school. She later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the National Teachers College of Manila. She and their first born son, Jonathan, then moved to the United States to be with Cirilo. They first stayed in Seattle, where they gave birth to their second son, Christopher. Then in moving to California, lived in the city of Pleasanton and Vallejo, before settling in Alameda. She worked at Blue Cross of California in the collections department for 15 years. Then at Brown and Toland for 5 years, the US Post Office for 8 years, and retired after her time at the Post Office.

Sophia loved to care for and maintain her house plants, garden, and home which was always warm and welcoming for her friends and family. She loved to bake and cook for her loved ones including her classic pancit noodle dish and Filipino menudo. Cirilo and Sophia’s home in Alameda was a central point for the family to gather for events and holidays. Sophia was a loving Mother, Sister, and Aunt who will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to the Pespitro-Jimenez family on the following dates:  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 and Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services. The Vigil Service will be held on Thursday, April 28th at 5:00 p.m. On Friday, April 29, 2022 the Funeral Mass will be held at St. Barnabas Church at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at St. Mary's Cemetery.
