Vernon "Archie" Lee Lowry

Vernon “Archie” Lowry was born to Lee and Myrtle Lowry in Ewan, Washington on July 2, 1931. Affectionately nicknamed Archie, he was one of four siblings.  Archie passed away peacefully on January 2, 2019 in Auburn, California.

Archie was a man of many talents and hobbies and a handyman of all trades. He taught Physiology and Biology at both Alameda and Encinal High Schools in Alameda and he loved to coach football, basketball and baseball. He was a craftsman, liked to garden and golf, and even had his pilot’s license. He was very active in his community, including being a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Elks for 67 years, and a member of Rotary. Archie loved his family and friends, and he never met a person he did not like. He will be remembered as always being humble and kind.

Archie is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Myrtle Lowry, his brothers Ernie, Richard, and Norman Lowry, and wife Clara Boyce Lowry.

He is survived by his wife Pat Grigsby, children; Barbara Ann Perry, Mary Marguarite Lowry, and Terry Lee Lowry; grandchildren; Aimee Casamatta, Lukas Perry, Lindsay Perry, Sharlene Lowry, Lora Robblee, and Steven Lock; and great-granchildren; Katelynn Casamatta, Joseph Casamatta, Dominic Perry, Gabriel Casamatta, Cayden Chapman, Christopher Perry, Piper Perry, Dakota Lock, and Hunter Lock.  Archie will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him.

A Life Celebration for Archie will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Ave, Alameda, CA. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 5000 Piedmont Ave, Oakland, CA. Family and friends are invited to attend the reception following services.
